The current state of college athletes'academics is at an all time low. There have been numerous sanctions against colleges due to this and many athletes are left with little education after college.
College academic scandals
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill:
This scandal began in 2010, and involved academic fraud. The main problem in this scandal was the university allowing them to take classes that did not match its own academic standards. It was revealed that many UNC student athletes were given grades for classes they did not attend and did as little as turning in a single sheet of paper. Along with this were many “fake” classes students took just to get through college so they could focus on athletics. Many of these fake classes originated in African-American studies.

While, UNC may be the only university to have been caught and punished, there are likely a lot more scandals to come. The NCAA is investigating 20 colleges for academic misconduct. Included in this is college athletes receiving impermissible benefits from professors and academic advisers.
